Glossary
The words Affirmat uses, in one place. Each has what it means and what it does not say, because the second half is the one that gets left out everywhere else.
Not open yet
Affirmat is opening in Ireland first, and it is not open yet. Nothing on this site can be signed into, searched or put up today.
There is no waiting list and no sign-up: this page asks for nothing, not even an email address. It is here so what is being built can be read and held to.
Everything below is built and tested. None of it has yet met a phone network, a customer or a bill.
These pages describe the screens and the words of the product itself. None of those screens can be opened yet, so read them as the rules rather than as instructions.
Every word
- Band
- A price shown as a range, such as €500–1,000. Every business shows bands unless it chooses to show exact figures. What it does not say. A band is the figure the business published, rounded by Affirmat to a fixed range. It is not an estimate of what your job will cost.
- Client confirmed
- The client who paid followed a link, said the job happened, and rated four things: quality, tidiness, communication and price. The photographs did not meet the place test, or were added afterwards. What it does not say. It is one person’s account of one job. It is not an inspection and it is not a certificate.
- Co-signed
- Another tradesperson, not from the same business, was on the job and signed to say so with their own photograph from the same day and the same place. What it does not say. It is evidence that somebody else was there. It is not a second inspection.
- Confirmation rate
- Of the jobs a business marked done at least 14 days ago, the share the client confirmed. What it does not say. It is never shown on its own. The number of jobs it was taken over is always beside it, because a rate over two jobs means nothing.
- Docket
- The record of one job: what was done, where, by whom, with photographs, a price and the client’s confirmation. The word trades already use. What it does not say. A docket is a record of one job and is never a record of a business.
- Ledger
- A business’s dockets, newest first, with the figures computed from them. A record rather than a profile. What it does not say. It shows what has been confirmed. It is not a ranking and not a rating.
- Location matched
- The photograph carried its own location, and that location was within 150 metres of the address or premises, with a fix good to 50 metres or better, taken inside the job window. What it does not say. It says where the camera was. A photograph of a screen, taken at the right address, would also carry the right location — which is why a confirmation from the client is still required before any job counts.
- Logbook
- The record kept against a home or a vehicle: every confirmed job on it, whoever did the work. What it does not say. It belongs to the customer, not to any business.
- Logged
- A business recorded the job on its own ledger. Nobody outside the business has said anything about it.What it does not say. A logged job is not evidence of finished work. It does not count towards the confirmed job figure and it does not affect where a business appears in results.
- Photo added
- A photograph was uploaded to the job. Affirmat knows when it received the file and nothing else about it.What it does not say. It is not evidence. A photograph with this label carries no stamp, and it never upgrades to another label later.
- Register mark
- Affirmat matched the business against a public trade register on a date, and that date is shown. What it does not say. It is a match on a day, not a guarantee that the registration or the insurance is in force today. Check the register itself before work begins.
- Routing key
- The first part of an Eircode, such as D06. It is what a public card shows instead of an address. What it does not say. A full address is never public. Neither is a vehicle registration — a vehicle job shows the make and model.
- Site mode
- The screen a tradesperson gets on their phone when they are standing at the job, with the capture button on it. It opens only when the phone is at the address and closes when they leave. What it does not say. It never uses background location and records nothing when it is closed.
- Time matched
- The photograph's own timestamp fell inside the job window, but no usable location came with the file. This is the ordinary case on an iPhone, which removes location when a photo is shared unless the person allows it.What it does not say. It says when the photograph was taken, and nothing about where.
- Verified
- The client confirmed the job, and at least one photograph was taken through Affirmat inside the job's own window and within 150 metres of the address or premises it is filed against. This is the only tier that may be described as verified on site. What it does not say. It says a camera was in the right place at the right time and that the client said the job happened. It does not say the work was done well, and Affirmat has not inspected it.
- Verified on site
- The photograph came from a signed capture — a camera that signs its own files, or the Affirmat app with the device attesting to itself — taken inside the job window and within 150 metres of the anchor. What it does not say. A signature says the file has not been altered since the camera wrote it. It does not say what is in the frame.
