For customers

A business logs the job and marks it done. You get one link and answer one question. What you say becomes the public record, and it is yours as much as theirs.

Not open yet

Affirmat is opening in Ireland first, and it is not open yet. Nothing on this site can be signed into, searched or put up today.

There is no waiting list and no sign-up: this page asks for nothing, not even an email address. It is here so what is being built can be read and held to.

Everything below is built and tested. None of it has yet met a phone network, a customer or a bill.

These pages describe the screens and the words of the product itself. None of those screens can be opened yet, so read them as the rules rather than as instructions.

Confirming a job

  1. The business marks the job doneIt cannot be marked done without at least one photograph. The business is told to say to the client, there and then, that a text is coming.
  2. You get one linkBy text or by email, to the number or address the business has for you. It is good for 30 days. It can be sent again at most 3 times, and not more often than once every 48 hours.
  3. You see the job before you answerThe photographs, the dates, the price as the business publishes it, and who did the work. Then one question: did this job happen.
  4. You rate four thingsQuality, tidiness, communication and price, each out of five, and you may leave up to three hundred characters of your own. Every confirmation link lands on this same page with these same four ratings.
  5. It becomes a public recordOn the business ledger, on the profile of the person who took the photographs, and in your own logbook if you keep one. None of the three can delete another. You can hide the photographs from the public card.

What the business can and cannot do

These are not policies that could be changed by a setting. There is no screen in the product that does any of the things below.

The business never sees your rating first
There is no screen anywhere in the product where a business reads a rating before it is public, and no way for a business to choose which clients are asked. Every job marked done gets the same link. What it does not say. A business can see that a job is awaiting confirmation. That is all.
A business cannot confirm its own job
The number or address that confirms is checked against the business owner, its staff and every phone and email on the team. A match is refused. What it does not say. A confirmation more than the allowed number of times from one client, to one business, is held and flagged rather than counted.
Confirming is not paying
No money moves through Affirmat, ever. There is no deposit, no escrow and no payment. Confirming a job says the work happened; it settles nothing between you and the business. What it does not say. Anything about the money is between you and the business, exactly as it was before.
You can say it did not happen
The same page carries that answer. It opens a dispute, the business replies, and a person at Affirmat decides. The outcome is public either way. What it does not say. Affirmat decides whether the record stands. It does not decide who owes whom, and it is not an arbitrator.

After the job

Snag
Something left to finish or put right. Up to 5 per job, each with a line of text and a photograph. The business closes it with a photograph and you agree that it is closed. What it does not say. A snag still open after 30 days is shown publicly on the business page. Affirmat does not hide it and the business cannot remove it.
Callback
Asking the business back to the same job, for up to 12 months. They have 7 days to answer. What it does not say. Whether callbacks were honoured is public on the business page, with the number asked for beside the number honoured.
Dispute
Either side can say the record is wrong. The other side replies, both statements are public, and a person at Affirmat decides whether the record stands. What it does not say. The outcome is shown on the page with the reply beside it. Affirmat removes a verification when the evidence does not hold; it does not take sides about money.
Logbook
Your own record of a home or a vehicle: every confirmed job on it, whoever did the work. It moves with the property when you pass it on.What it does not say. A business cannot see your logbook, and cannot delete a job from it. You can hide photographs from the public card without removing the job.

What Affirmat holds about you

Your phone number and email are stored encrypted and are never shown in full, to anybody, anywhere in the product. A number given for a one-off job is deleted after the job closes unless you keep a logbook. What is held, for how long and how to ask for it is set out in privacy, and what each word on a card means is in what the words mean.
